IJsselmeer and border lakes

The largest lake in the Netherlands is the IJsselmeer, which measures 1100 square kilometres. South of it is the second large lake that borders Flevoland: the 700-square metre Markermeer. Both are a true paradise for water sports fans and have magnificent views. Imagine a wonderful sunny day with a stiff breeze; the white crests on the waves and the boats on the water mere specks against the horizon, a magnificent sight.

Whether by boat, bicycle or car, an excursion on or along the border lakes is a must. Start at the Drontermeer Lake and take in the Veluwemeer Lake, or consider an overnight stay on an uninhabited island. If by boat, moor at one of the many uninhabited islands and enjoy truly untouched natural surroundings. Sail via the Eemmeer and the Gooimeer Lakes, and you end up at the Almere coastline, with its numerous beaches that are specially designed for tanning or walking. The border lakes and canals are perfect for a saloon yacht excursion or holiday. Hire a completely furnished  saloon yacht from one of various hire companies, sail from location to location and fall asleep to the gentle rocking of the waves.
